PHILOSOPHY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Learning must be based upon Scriptural rather than secular principles, with Scriptural principles forming an integral part of each curriculum. The Bible teaching for each grade reinforces these principles.  Woodlawn Christian School regards true education as that which has at its core Christian education, because it deals with life as viewed from a Biblical perspective, including:

  • Reality - God is the personal and purposeful Creator and represents the guiding force of the universe. As such, He is real and active in the lives of all people today

  •

  • Truth - All truth is God’s truth, is consistent throughout the universe, and exists as an absolute. God has revealed Himself through His written Word, and man’s understanding of truth and creation comes through a study of that Word.

  • Knowledge - All knowledge must be interpreted within the context of Biblical truth. Any knowledge or personal conviction serving as a guiding principle must be based on the truth as revealed in God’s Word.

  •

  • Man - Man is created in the spiritual and moral likeness of God. Man’s essential nature includes his freedom to choose his behavior and thoughts, and what he will think, become, and do. His inherent nature and his environment of good and evil affect his freedom of choice. Therefore, man is in need of help to choose that which is good and to find fulfillment in a life reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

In order for an educational program to be academically sound, it must be founded upon the Biblical principles that recognize the nature of God, of truth, of knowledge, and of man. Implicit in Christian education are these truths:

  • Man possesses a spiritual dimension. (Gen. 1:26-27)

  • Education engages the total person: spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social. (Proverbs 9:9)

  • Each person possesses unique individual potential, traits, and needs. (Romans 12:3-8)

  • The educational experience must involve, as primary emphasis, the development of Christian beliefs, attitudes, and application of Scriptural truth.

  • Integrating Biblical truth and academic courses will be a primary focus of the total educational process.

  • Students need a trustworthy guide to prepare for life in a complex society. The Bible alone has the answers to man’s needs and longings, and therefore serves as our authority in dealing with life issues.

OVERVIEW OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

The primary objective of Woodlawn Christian School is to obey the imperatives found in Deuteronomy 6:5-7

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: And you shall teach them diligently to your children.

and in Proverbs 22:6

train up a child in the way he should go.

Teaching is training, and training for life must include training for eternity. Woodlawn Christian School, based on Christian principles, works closely with parents to train the whole child — socially, academically, spiritually, and physically.

Attendance at this school is a privilege, not a right. Woodlawn Christian School exists to train students in the principles of Christian leadership, self-discipline, responsibility, integrity, and citizenship.
